STUDIO Etiquette

What to bring:

  • For Pilates mat, yoga and barre: Socks, yoga mat and/or towel.

  • For Pilates reformer classes: grippy socks

  • For Zumba: Sneakers/trainers (that are not too grippy so you can twist) and a water bottle

Book your spot

Please ensure that you have booked a spot in your class or session before turning up. We do not accept walk-ins for classes and payment is required at the time of booking. Cash is not accepted onsite for any of our classes or sessions.

Hydration

To keep you refreshed and hydrated during your Pilates sessions, you are welcome to bring your own water bottle to sip on. We also provide filtered water for your convenience. If you choose to bring your own bottle, please ensure that the lid is securely closed at all times to prevent any accidental spills or leaks. We ask students to keep water bottles off the floor (either by your bag on rested on a window sill during classes).

Arrive a little Early

Plan on arriving about 5 minutes early to give yourself extra time to get prepared prior to your lesson. We ask students not too arrive to early as we often have other sessions at the studio and we hate for you to have to wait outside. Being punctual allows you to settle in, get situated, and avoid disruptions for yourself and others.  We also ask that after your class that you do not linger too long or in crowded areas.

Running late?

If you are ever running late for a class, please enter as quietly as possible and slip into your spot.  We appreciate that being late is unavoidable sometimes (and we’re not mean enough to restrict entry provided that you try not to disrupt other students). But, you need to give yourself at least 5 minutes or so of warming up moves before you attempt to catch up with the class. If you are new to the studio and have not had an initial orientation please aim to arrive 5-10 minutes early.

Turn your mobile phone off for an hour 😊

Unless you're expecting an urgent call or are on-call as a medical professional, please silence your cell phone and store it in your bag. Create a distraction-free environment where everyone can fully engage in the Pilates practice.

Appropriate Attire

While there are no strict dress codes, we recommend wearing form-fitting and clean clothing that allows your instructor to observe and assist with proper body alignment. Refrain from wearing clothes with zippers or buttons. It can scratch the mats and equipment. Refrain from wearing jewellery as not only can it scratch our equipment, it can also become a potential safety hazard for you.

Shoes Off

The studio is a no-shoes area – please take your shoes off before heading to your mat or reformer. Your feet are very important to the Pilates workout. For hygiene reasons we ask students to wear socks for all studio classes although if you have your own mat, you are welcome to take your socks off on your mat. In order to properly “feel” your feet, we recommend “sticky” socks (e.g. toe socks) and these are available for sale in the studio for $20 a pair. Socks must be worn on the reformer and grippy socks are highly recommended for stability and safety. Additionally, we request that you wear socks that are clean and odour-free. Your attention to personal hygiene contributes to a comfortable and enjoyable environment for everyone.

Inform us about Injuries or Special Requests

To optimise your experience, kindly inform your teacher in advance of any injuries or specific requirements you may have. This allows our instructors to provide modifications or alternative exercises to accommodate your needs. Some classes may not be an option for you depending on your injury or physical limitations so please enquire in advance of booking if you are unsure.

Minimise Perfume Usage

To maintain a pleasant environment, we request that you refrain from wearing strong perfumes or scents. Some individuals may have sensitivities or allergies, and we strive to create a comfortable space for all participants. Opt for deodorant rather than body spray during your workout.

Cleanliness and Tidiness

We take pride in providing a clean and well-maintained studio. After each class, please take a few minutes to sanitise the equipment and props provided. Return all items to their original locations, ensuring a neat and organised space for the next client. Before leaving, double-check your area to avoid leaving any valuables behind.

Respectful Cancellations

We have a 12-hour late cancel policy. If you have to cancel or reschedule, please do so on time or you forfeit your class or session. All cancellations must be made via the link in your confirmation email or directly from your account in the Momence App. We appreciate as much notice as possible as we are a small studio and cancellations impact us significantly.

Frequent cancellations or no-shows for standing appointments may result in the cancellation of your reserved time slots. Our instructors reserve these slots for you and rely on your commitment. Consistency is key to achieving your workout and health goals.

Social distancing

Your instructor will guide you on where to base yourself during the class. Ensure that you maintain distance between you and the next person. (just as valid if you are on the floor in a mat class, or dancing in a Zumba class). Have special awareness and if someone is unavoidable in your ‘space’ please be respectful (but not shy) in asking them to realign their position.

Handle with care

Please handle equipment with care. To us, it's more than a piece of apparatus, but a training partner that we treat with respect.

Maintaining a focused atmosphere

Although we take pride in not taking ourselves too seriously,  we do ask that during the class you refrain from chatting or joking as this can interrupt both the instructor and other students' concentration.
